What does DESCO charge per unit of electricity?

A demand charge and 5% VAT are added on top to reach your total bill.
DESCO does not set its own rates. All six distributors bill on the same BERC national tariff, so the per-unit price is identical at DESCO, DPDC, BPDB, Palli Bidyut, NESCO and WZPDCL. What differs between them is meter type, rebates and how you pay — covered below.

The ৳4.63 lifeline rate applies only if your whole month is 50 units or less — go over and the regular slabs apply. Both low steps were left unchanged in the 2026 revision.

- Northern Dhaka — Mirpur, Pallabi, Kafrul, Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, Uttara, Tongi and the cantonment areas.
- Meters and tokens
- Most DESCO prepaid meters are smart (POISA/AMI) and top up automatically; older keypad meters take an SMS token.
- Minimum prepaid recharge
- ৳500 (unified meter) / ৳100 (AMS meter)
- Prepaid rebate
- Prepaid meters earn a 0.5% rebate on energy use — the same across every distributor.
